LG chairman removes Wike’s name from council building

Former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, has said Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains the leader of the party in Rivers State, saying two captains cannot steer a ship.

The state has been engulfed in crisis since Fubara and his predecessor, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, fell apart over the control of PDP’s structure in Rivers.

Speaking during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party in Abuja, Secondus regretted the ongoing crisis, which he said had driven potential investors away from the state but expressed hope that the crisis would soon be a thing of the past.

He admonished those who are against the governor to embrace peace in the interest of the state and its people.

At the weekend, the newly elected chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government Area, Chijioke Ihunwo, removed Wike’s name from the administrative block of the council secretariat. The former Rivers governor is from Rumuepirikom Community in Obio Akpor LGA of the state and was a former local council chairman.

The minister’s name, which was boldly engraved on the administrative building of the council secretariat, has now been replaced with a former politician and activist in the state, the late Obi Wali.

MEANWHILE, the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by Tony Okocha in Rivers, has urged the panel of inquiry set up by the state government to investigative the recent arson, killings and wanton destructions at some local government secretariats, to also investigate the bombing of the party’s office and state Assembly Complex.

The resolution was reached at the APC stakeholder’s meeting in Obio/Akpor LGA at the weekend to chart ways forward for the party in the area.

Recall that Fubara had on October 8 inaugurated a seven-man panel with Justice Ibiwengi Minakiri as chairman, to investigate the mayhem on council secretariats that occurred last week Monday.

The APC resolved that there were no local council elections in the state and further resolved that the Appeal Court judgment affirming Martin Amaewhule as the Speaker of the House of Assembly is in sync with the position of the state APC.
