Gombe DPP says former PDP campaign DG is their gubernatorial candidate

The Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) in Gombe State has given its governorship candidates, Bala Bello, who defected to All Progressives Party (APC), seven days ultimatum to resume electioneering campaign or it would take legal action against him.

The Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) in Gombe State has given its governorship candidates, Bala Bello, who defected to All Progressives Party (APC), seven days ultimatum to resume electioneering campaign or it would take legal action against him. The Democratic People’s Party’s, National Publicity Secretary, Mr Nafiu Bala, made the called while briefing the press in Gombe yesterday, said Bello knew that time allotted by the Independent National Electoral Commission for substitution of candidate had long elapsed.
 
Mr. Nafiu said that in spite his defection to APC, he is still the gubernatorial candidate of DPP as he did not resigned his membership or withdraw.
 
“In the light of the foregoing and being fully aware that INEC records show that Bala Bello is the gubernatorial candidate of DPP for Gombe State, we hereby serve notice on him to resume his governorship campaigns for the March 2, 2019 general election.
 
“As a party guided by records and due process, we want to inform Nigerians that Alhaji Bala Bello is still the gubernatorial candidate of DPP. In the event that he fails to accede to this request within the next seven days, we will be compelled to take all necessary legal action and constitutional means to redress the monumental cost his action has caused to the party. DPP has therefore resolved and hereby demand that Bala Bello resume his electioneering campaign immediately.”
 
“He urged the party supporters to remain law abiding and assured them that the party is taking necessary steps to redress the issue.Bello, who was also the former campaign Director-General of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, reacted and said it was the place of the state chairman of DPP to react on the party’s statement.

Muhammed Abubakar Sarki, Chairman DPP also confirmed that Bello is still the governorship candidate because he did not resign his membership, nor issue any statement for his withdrawal from the contest.
