Governors Road, Ikotun, records low turnout of voters

Low turnout of voters was recorded at Polling 004 Ward A, Governors Road, Ikotun, Lagos, as many residents preferred remaining at home during Saturday’s Local Government Election.

The Guardian quick check at Polling 004 Ward A1 at Anishere bus stop confirmed early fears that Saturday’s Local Government Elections in Lagos may go down as the most ignored elections after only 22 voters had turned up as at presstime.

An official Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), who pleaded anonymity, exclusively confirmed the low turnout despite heavy security presence in the area.

”The turnout has not been very encouraging if you consider the number of people who came out to perform their civic duties so far. Only 22 individuals have turned up to cast their vote so far, despite heavy security presence.

”We turned up early in the morning with voting materials, and we could only hope that more voters would turn out and vote,” he said

Another visit to Polling 004 Ward A4 at Whitehouse bus stop was met with the gloomy faces of LASIEC officials and party delegates, who also lamented low turnout of voters.

”The turnout is very poor and not encouraging. As you can see, nobody is here to vote, even though we’ve been able to record just 20 voters since morning. We have not witnessed any form of violence or molestation. We hope that people will still come around to vote, be we leave here,” another LASIEC official told TheGuardian
No violence has been recorded so far in the area.
