Jev, Suswam clinch PDP senatorial tickets in Benue
Danladi, Alhassan emerge APC, UDP candidates
Representative of Buruku Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Emmanuel Orker Jev, has clinched the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the Benue North West senatorial district in the 2019 general elections.
Similarly, former Governor of the state, Gabriel Suswam, has won the PDP ticket for Benue North- East senatorial district.In the primaries held in Makurdi, Orker Jev polled 591 votes, beating three other contenders, among who are Mike Mku who scored 333 votes, Gideon Dooyum Inyom and Georgina Ngufan who polled seven and one votes respectively.
While announcing the results, Returning Officer for the Electoral Committee, Cletus Tyokyaa, declared Jev winner of the primaries and thanked the delegates for conducting themselves peacefully leading to a free, transparent and credible election.
In his acceptance speech, Jev said he was overwhelmed by the victory, which he said was achieved through a transparent and organised process.He promised to work hard to ensure that the party gains victory in the state in the forthcoming general elections, even as he commended his co aspirants for their spirit of sportsmanship,Suswam was returned unopposed after delegates affirmed him with their votes at the exercise held in Kastina-Ala Local Council of the state.
However, PDP primary election for Benue South senatorial district could not hold due to some unresolved issues within the party in the zone.Meanwhile, former Acting Governor of Taraba State, Sani Danladi Abubakar has emerged the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for next year’s election.
Also, former Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Aisha Jumai Alhassan, who was recently disqualified from the governorship race under APC, has been affirmed flag bearer of the United Democratic Party (UDP) in Taraba State.
The former minister, who did not only resign as minister but also dumped the APC for UDP following perceived injustice, was affirmed as UDP’s governorship candidate in the party’s primaries held in Jalingo.
Declaring the APC governorship results at the early hours of yesterday in Fast Tract hotel, Jalingo, the chairman of the panel, Emmanuel Ocheja, said Danladi emerged winner at the primaries, urging the nine other aspirants to assist the governorship flag bearer to triumph at the 2019 polls.
