Kano assembly confirms Shekarau’s nominees, others as commissioner designates.
Kano State House of Assembly yesterday confirmed four new nominees as commissioner designates.The Guardian leant that four political associates and nominees of former Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, were part of those appointed.
Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, had last week forwarded the list to the lawmakers for screening and subsequent confirmation, less than five months to the expiration of the administration.
Two of the nominees are, Dr. Muhammad Tahir Adamu, a university lecturer and former Chairman, Kura local council, Shehu Na-Allah Kura. Others were spokesman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, Bashir Yahaya Karaye, and Muntari Ishaq, former Chairman Municipal council area.
Ishaq’s appointment is said to be compensation after he lost the House of Representatives’ ticket to the Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Broadcast Media, Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada, at the primaries.
Speaking at the plenary, speaker of the house, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum explained that their confirmation followed thorough screening and guided procedures by the lawmakers.The speaker said by the confirmation, the governor can allocate portfolios to them.
Meanwhile, the assembly has received over N205 billion as 2019 appropriation for the 44 council areas for approval. Rurum said 52 per cent of the budget was for capital projects, while 48 per cent was allocated to recurrent expenditure.The speaker said the submission of the appropriation bill for the local governments was in line with the Kano State Local Government Law of 2016.
