Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has inaugurated the new Chairman of Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Sa’idu Yahya, with a charge to him to firmly steer the affairs of the agency.
He also swore in three political aides, Kabiru Getso Haruna, Special Adviser on Employment; Dr. Saleh Musa Sa’ad, Special Adviser on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and Mr. Sylvester Cole, Special Adviser on South-South community.
A statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, said the inauguration followed the approval of the State House of Assembly.
Governor Yusuf stated that the appointments were made based on merit, competence, commitment and confidence reposed on the new aides to deliver.
He particularly admonished the PCACC boss to be neutral, fearless, hardworking and shun practices inimical to the smooth running of the commission.
The governor appreciated the contributions of the former chairman, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, who championed the course of fighting corruption in his 10-year sojourn as head of the commission.
ALSO, the state government may have kick-started political sensitisation of citizens ahead of the 2027 electioneering season.
In this regard, it has constituted a 36-member task force, including representatives from various trade unions, civil society groups, media and head of government agencies, to galvanise political awareness.
The panel is coming up less than 48 hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reopened the portal for continuous voter registration (CVR) nationwide.
The high-powered committee, headed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, would be formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
A release signed by Press Secretary in the Office of the SSG, Musa Tanko Muhammad, explained that the initiative was part of a strategic intervention to mobilise and encourage full participation of Kano citizens in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
The government stressed that the task force would not only serve as an administrative arrangement, but also engage in a decisive step towards promoting mass participation of eligible Kano citizens to exercise their franchise.
Members of the panel include the Commissioners of Women Affairs, Children and Disabled and Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Special Adviser, Political Mobilisation; Special Adviser, Inter-Party Affairs, and Special Adviser, Population, among others.
The membership of the task force also comprised representatives of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP); Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC); Kano Emirate Council; Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON); Kano Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC); Council of Ulam, Kano HISBAH Board; Kano Traders Association, and Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
