The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled Chief Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi and Mr. Azeez Yusuf over alleged anti-party activities, disloyalty, and conduct deemed inimical to the discipline and integrity of the party.

The state chairman of the party, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, announced the expulsion in a statement on Wednesday.

Egunjobi and Yusuf were former members of the APC who contested the party’s primary elections for Agege Constituency I and Agege Constituency II respectively, in the 2026 Lagos State House of Assembly nomination process, but failed to secure the party’s tickets.

According to the APC, rather than accept the outcome of the party’s internal process and remain on its platform, the two subsequently obtained tickets from another political party.

The party described the action as a repudiation of the obligations of party membership and an act of anti-party activity and disloyalty.

It also dismissed their purported resignations from the APC as a “belated and face-saving attempt” to preempt disciplinary consequences.

The statement said, “The party’s position is that membership of the APC cannot be treated as a convenient political garment to be worn during a primary and discarded immediately after an unsuccessful outcome.”

The Lagos APC said its members were free to aspire to elective offices but were expected to pursue such ambitions within the framework of the party’s constitution and applicable electoral laws.

It said members who lost internal contests were expected to accept the outcome or pursue legitimate avenues of redress provided by the party and the law, rather than seek alternative political platforms within the same electoral cycle.

The party said it had invoked the relevant provisions of Article 9(5)(II) of the APC Constitution, as amended in 2022, in taking disciplinary action against Egunjobi and Yusuf.

The Lagos APC also linked the disciplinary action to the 2026 electoral framework, noting that the Independent National Electoral Commission had emphasised compliance by political parties and political actors with the Electoral Act 2026 and the commission’s regulations governing the electoral process.

The party consequently declared that Egunjobi and Yusuf were no longer members of the APC.

It warned that neither individual had the authority to speak for, represent, negotiate on behalf of, or transact business with any person, organisation or institution in the name of the Lagos State APC or the APC.

The party urged its members, supporters, stakeholders and the general public to take note of the change in their status and refrain from dealing with either of them as representatives or authorised agents of the APC.

The Lagos APC said it remained committed to internal democracy, discipline, loyalty and adherence to its rules.

“The right to contest an election does not confer the right to sabotage the Party after losing its nomination process,” it said.

The party added that it would continue to take steps to preserve its discipline, cohesion and credibility ahead of the forthcoming elections.
