A member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing Yagba East, West, and Mopamuro federal constituencies in Kogi State, Leke Abejide, has asked supporters across the state to leave his colleague in the Green Chamber, James Faleke, out of unhealthy politics.

The lawmaker was reacting to political comments made by some people regarding the politics of his constituency ahead of the 2027 election, where the name of Hon. Faleke was mentioned as the source.

In a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja, personally signed by him, Abejide said he would not allow himself to be distracted from governance and efforts to improve the lives of his constituents.

Abejide, who is also Chairman of the House Committee on Customs, expressed confidence that Faleke did not send those people he described as political jobbers on such an errand.

The statement by Abejide reflects a strong call for a focus on governance and development rather than engaging in divisive or premature political activities, urging his supporters and constituents to leave Hon. James Faleke out of such narratives.

He emphasised his commitment to constructive leadership and dismissed any claims that might lead to unnecessary distractions.

Abejide’s assertion that Hon. Faleke likely did not endorse or direct the alleged political remarks highlights his respect for his colleague and underscores the need for integrity in political discourse.

He assured that he is focused on delivering on his legislative duties, particularly as Chairman of the House Committee on Customs, and executing the budget for his second term, which aligns with his goal of prioritising the welfare of the people in Yagba Federal Constituency.

He further stated that this measured response also serves as a reminder for political stakeholders to steer clear of actions that could disrupt progress and unity within the constituency.

He said: “Please, and please, leave Hon. Abiodun Faleke out of this unhealthy politics some people started in December 2024 for an election that is still in 2027 in Yagba Federal Constituency.

“I am very sure and confident that Hon. Faleke did not send them to utter all those words credited to him, that he sent them a message to deliver to Yagba. They are only using his name to curry favour for themselves, so please forget about all the noise and let us concentrate on how the lives of our people will be better, not the politics of destruction some people started so early in 2024.

“As for me, I am only ready to face governance to alleviate the suffering of our people. My first budget for my second term has not even been executed, and some people who have nothing to do except being political jobbers will drag me into politics and distract me—never!”
