With three days to the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State, President Bola Tinubu has urged the people of the state to vote enmass for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s governorship election.
Tinubu, who was represented by his vice, Kashim Shettima, at the finale of the APC governorship campaign in Akure, the state capital governorship, led governors under the party’s platform as well as ministers to solicit support for Aiyedatiwa and his deputy, Olayide Adelami.
According to the president, the APC deserves the votes of the people of Ondo State, going by the attention the state has been receiving.
He said, “This is the democracy we believe in. The democracy that triumphs propaganda, that triumph bitterness, that triumph lies, that triumph hate, that triumph violence. Your vote will be your voice, your convictions, and your message to those who underestimate the strength and will of the people of Ondo State.
“I’m bringing you good tidings from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He ought to have been here, but the exigencies of the office compelled him to ask the high-level delegation to come and represent him in the sunshine state.
“And I want to echo the sentiment earlier expressed by the Senate Majority Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele. Leaders of Ondo, if Adekunle Ajasin is to be alive, is he going to vote for APC or for the reactionary elements?
“So, I urge you to cast your vote. Your vote is your voice. On Saturday, I will urge you to come out in mass. The President has good tidings for the people of Ondo State, the people of the Southwest, and the people of Nigeria.
“Just last week, he approved the establishment of a university teaching hospital here in Akure. The president deserves double kudos for his empathy. Ondo State has two senior ministers. The Minister of Interior is from Ondo, and the Minister for Youth Development is from Ondo. To those, much is given; much is equally expected.
“I want to thank you for standing in the sun for hours to wait for us to deliver this address. Honestly, I want to convey our depth of gratitude to you. The President has the highest regards for the people of Ondo. You are in a state of progressive. Come out and vote for the progressive candidate. Come out en masse. We are winning all 18 local government areas.”
On his part, the national chairman of APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, urged the residents of the state to vote for continuity.
According to him, “We are here to motivate you. We can see you are motivated. Vote for our candidate. By voting for him, you are voting for continuity. For he has laid a solid foundation for progress and good governance. Make sure you give us 18/18 come Saturday. We must vote for political uniformity in the southwest zone.”
The National Vice Chairman, South West of the party, Isaac Kekemeke, stated the Saturday election is a choice between light and darkness, stressing that “a vote for Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Adelami is a vote for life, and a vote for APC is a vote for a better Nigeria. A vote against APC is a vote for darkness. Let us vote massively for Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Aiyedatiwa stated that if gis late boss, former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu were to be alive, he would have been rooting for his victory on Saturday.
Present at the event were Governors of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun, Dapo Abiodun, Ekiti, Abiodun Oyebanji, and Imo State; Hope Uzodinma, Minister for Blue Economy; Gboyega Oyetola, Minister for Interior; Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister for Youth Development; Ayo Olawande; Senator Opeyemi Bamidele; and Senator Adams Oshiomole, among others.
