Osun Poll: SDP candidate scores INEC low

Voters on queue in Osun governorship election yesterday

The candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Iyiola Omisore and the deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barrister Albert Adeogun have scored the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) low in the conduct of yesterday’s poll in Osun State.

The duo made the remarks, yesterday, at their polling units after casting their votes. The PDP Deputy governorship candidate, who cast his vote at about 9.30 am at his Ilare 4 unit in Olodo Area in Ile-Ife East urged INEC to conduct the election without bias.

He said: “I think it is too early to make any conclusion about the conduct of the poll. But what I observed here was not palatable. A policeman was standing by the cubicle, which I corrected. That is one of the things I observed. I hope INEC will process this election without interfering and let votes count.”

Senator Omisore, who voted around 11 am at his Unit 003B, Moore Ward in Ife East said reports emanating from across the state showed that INEC has not done well. The SDP candidate cited card reader irregularities, late arrival of materials and alleged vote buying to buttress his claim.

He said: “The experience so far is nothing to write home about. At Egbedore, there was no card reader. At Ife South, there were no materials in some places up till now. A fake APC policeman was arrested. Except INEC improves, but for now it has not done well.”

Meanwhile, an accredited observer in the election, Dr. Joe Okei Odumakin scored INEC and security agencies high over their conduct in the election. She made the remarks while fielding questions from journalists at Ile-Ife, yesterday. She said: “There is need for a change of mindset by the followership. People need more education. There can’t be good leaders without good followers. And that is why leaders are exploiting them. That is why vote buying is going on.”
