Headquarters of South West Development Commission to be in Ibadan, says Bamidele
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, yesterday, received the female governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in the 2022 election, Kemi Elebute-Halle, and 500 others into the ruling party.
Oyebanji, while assuring the former governorship candidate and her supporters that their future and political careers are guaranteed in the party, said that nobody would be allowed to discriminate or deprive them of their fundamental rights as members of the party under his leadership.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Monisade Afuye, gave the assurance when he received Elebute-Halle and scores of her supporters that officially dumped the ADP to join the ruling party,
He described the APC as the most democratic party in the country in terms of better welfare packages for the masses.
Meanwhile, the National Chairman of APC, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, while handing over the party’s flag to the decampees, described the leader of the defectors as a heavyweight politician, who will add value to APC.
Ganduje, who was represented by APC’s Acting Chairman in Ekiti State, Sola Elesin, said that all the defectors would be given unrestricted opportunities to realise their ambitions in APC without any hindrance.
Elebute-Halle, while expressing delight over the reception, said she decided to join the APC to add value to Oyebanji’s government.
She promised to ensure peace and unity within the APC fold and work assiduously for the success of the party.
IN another development, the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, has declared that Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, will be the headquarters of the proposed South-West Development Commission.
The senator, who spoke, yesterday, in Ado-Ekiti, during the distribution of 5,000 bags of fertiliser to farmers in the senatorial district, said that the President would sign the bill into law when he returns from his vacation abroad.
He said that the fertilisers were distributed to boost food production and the economy in line with the agenda of the current administration to support farmers across the country.
The lawmaker denied the insinuations making the round that he was against the interest of the Southwest region, adding that his efforts and other 17 senators representing the zone led to the passage of the bill by the National Assembly.
He said that no bill or memorandum on regionalism had been presented before the Senate for discussion, noting that he would continue to protect the interest of the Yoruba race and the country at large.
