Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday, called on Governor Seyi Makinde to reduce his frequent overseas trips and concentrate on governing the state to give appropriate dividends of democracy to the governed.
The APC, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, said that Makinde’s alleged penchant for overseas’ travels had made the Oyo State residents suffer the consequences of the biting economic hardship, insecurity and rights violation.
The major opposition party referred to the announcement on Makinde’s social media pages two days ago that he (the governor) was on a tour of some European countries in the company of certain members of his cabinet, political appointees and associates to meet prospective foreign investors.
The APC said that the trip was embarked upon a few hours after the governor returned from his more than a month sabbatical which he enjoyed with his family members and friends in the United States (U.S.), Canada and parts of Europe.
The party, however, implored Makinde to immediately halt state-sponsored land-grabbing activities going in the state in the interest of the masses.
It said: “The rate at which the current administration inflicts hardship on the citizenry by forcefully taking over their property and places of commercial activities is becoming a threat to the peace of the society and it has to stop. Property owners and legitimate tenants in Bola Ige International Market are the latest victims and they deserve justice.”
