PDP rejects guber poll’s outcome in Katsina
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected the governorship results of Tafawa Balewa Local Council of Bauchi State over violence, disruption of collation and snatching of original result sheets at the council.

Returning Officer for the council, Mrs. Dominion Anosike, who interrupted before reading out results by party agent of All Progressives Congress (APC), alleged that results and election materials were hijacked by unknown hoodlums at the collation centre, which led her to refer back to results she backed up on her laptop computer, with which she compared with the results from party agents.

“We were attacked by hoodlums at the collation centre just when we were about to announce the results for Tafawa Balewa Local Government area. The original result sheet was carted away, but thank God I had backed it up on my laptop before the incident occurred.

“We were under duress to announce the results at the local government collation centre. Hoodlums took away the original result sheet before announcement but we were able to get the scores from the party agents, which we later computed in the computer.”However, an APC agent, Col. Umaru Tilde (rtd), claimed that the results announced at the collation centre were “doctored” because the original result sheets have been carted away by hoodlums.

The state Returning Officer, Prof. Muhammed Kyari, after reading out from the INEC electoral code on matters regarding violence, however, rejected Tafawa Balewa Local Council poll’s result.

Meanwhile, as Dominion was trying to leave the premises of the state collation centre, some unidentified men stopped her from leaving the auditorium and threatened to harm her. They protested that she must be allowed to submit the result she came to the venue with, alleging “foul play” by INEC.

It, however, took the effort of the Police Commissioner, Bauchi Command, Ali Janga and his men to help her escape from INEC premises. The state CP said the person involved in threatening the INEC official had been arrested. In another development, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the results of the governorship elections in Katsina State, alleging irregularities.

The party’s chairman in the state, Salisu Yusuf Majigiri, stated this yesterday shortly before collation of results at the INEC office in Katsina was concluded. Majigiri stated that the elections witnessed low turn-out and results recorded did not tally with what party agents obtained from the field accused the ruling party of disenfranchising the electorate through the militarisation of some council areas and polling units during the exercise.
