Pro-Fubara Assembly takes action on NNPCL oil spill incident
The Pro-Siminalayi Fubara Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Victor Oko-Jumbo, has passed a resolution mandating its Committee on Public Complaint to investigate the cause of the oil spill at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited facility in Bonny Local Government Area.
The committee was tasked with visiting the affected communities, assessing the level of damage, and providing recommendations to alleviate the suffering of the people.
The resolution follows a petition presented by Leader Sokari Goodbye Sokari on behalf of Minima Community in Bonny LGA.
The petition, signed by Amaopusenibo Kingsley Hart, urged the House to take immediate action to address the environmental disaster caused by the spill.
The NNPC oil spill incident, which occurred on November 22, 2024, has affected several communities in Bonny LGA, including Iloma, Epelema, Orupiri, Ayaminima, Minima, Oloma, and Oguede.
The incident has caused widespread environmental damage and has had a devastating impact on the livelihoods of the affected communities.
In a related development, the House also gave the first reading to the Rivers State Real Estate Regulatory Authority Bill 2024 and the Rivers State College of Nursing Sciences Bill 2024.
