…As battle for soul of Rivers continues
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has unveiled Mr. David Amapakaye Okumgba as the party’s deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The development comes as stakeholders and party chieftains continue to realign and fine-tune their strategies ahead of next year’s polls.
Okumgba nomination comes weeks after the party presented Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson , an ally to the former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi as its governorship candidate, completing its ticket ahead of the polls.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the State Chairman of the party, Dr. Chukwudi Dimgba, described Okumgba as an experienced politician and administrator with an impressive record in both the private and political sectors.
According to Dimgba, Okumgba previously served as South-South Zonal Secretary and South-South Zonal Publicity Secretary of a major political party. He also chaired the Appeal Committee for Senatorial Primaries in Edo State and had contested for a seat in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
He said the nominee’s political experience, organisational capacity, interpersonal skills and understanding of Rivers State’s socio-political landscape make him a suitable running mate for the party’s governorship candidate.
“Our ticket represents competence, experience, inclusiveness and a shared vision for a new Rivers State founded on good governance, accountability, economic growth, security and equal opportunities for all,” Dimgba said.
He added that the Pidomson-Okumgba ticket reflects the aspirations of the people and offers the leadership, competence and integrity required to move the state forward.
The party chairman called on ADC members, supporters and Rivers residents to rally behind the ticket as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 governorship election.
Dimgba also expressed confidence that the party would unite the people and promote a government committed to transparency, accountability and development.
Okumgba is an administrator, businessman and political leader whose public service career spans several years.
