The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Khana Local Council in Rivers State, Marvins Yobana, and his supporters loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara have formally announced their defection to the Action Peoples Party (APP).

The Guardian gathered that more CTC chairmen and other Fubara loyalists will be decamping to APP in a few days, as preparations for the council elections top other issues in the state.

The gale of defections confirms an earlier report that Fubara’s loyalists would contest the council polls under the APP platform, following the unabated political crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) where the governor’s estranged godfather and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is having significant control of the party’s structure both in the national and at the state levels.

Fubara’s loyalists couldn’t move to the Labour Party (LP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) due to Wike’s alleged romance with the party stalwarts.

Speaking at an event in Khana Local Council yesterday, Yobana, who did not get a nod to return as Chairman like others, said: “I hereby announce that I have moved to APP, and I introduce to you Martins Ibibo as the person that would be sworn in after the October 5 election as the Executive Chairman of Khana.”

Meanwhile, the Chairman of APP in the state, Sunny Wokekoro, has announced that the party would embark on campaigns today, September 24, 2024, by the guidelines released by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

Wokekoro said: “We have come up with a timetable; we will start with Rivers South East, Rivers West and others for our campaign.”

He noted that the APP is the chief wrestler in the election, affirming that it would sweep the polls and persuade the governor to run under our party in 2027.
