Rivers PDP Crisis: Pro-Wike lawmakers declares support for Chukwuemeka

Rivers State House of Assembly

The Pro-Nyesom Wike Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, paid a solidarity visit to the Chukwuemeka Aaron-led Rivers State Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday.

The visit follows a planned visit by the Robinson Ewor-led PDP to take leadership of the party after a Rivers State High Court nullified the congresses that produced Chukwuemeka and executives at other levels.

A Rivers High Court, headed by Justice Stephen Jumbo on the 13 of January 2025, delivered a judgement nullifying the congresses which led to the emergence of the Robinson Ewor, a pro-Siminalayi Fubara filling in the void created by the court ruling.

However, during his maiden press briefing on Wednesday, Ewor announced that he would storm the PDP Secretariat to take over the party since nature abhors a vacuum.
This was met with stiff resistance as the Chukwuemeka camp in the early hours of Thursday occupied the office, denyıng being a party to the suit that ousted them.
Chukwuemeka, in a press conference, alleged that the party was not aware of the suit, adding that the party would appeal the judgment and insisting that his faction is the legitimate and authentic party in the state.

However, Amaewhule during the visit expressed gratitude to God for bringing everyone safely into 2025 and commended the peaceful transfer of power within the party.
He praised Chukwuemeka for his exemplary leadership, saying, “You have piloted the affairs of the party with excellence, and we have no doubt in your ability to lead the PDP to victory in future elections.”

Amaewhule reaffirmed the Assembly’s loyalty to the party and to Wike, describing him as a “square peg in a square hole.” He commended Wike’s exceptional performance as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Reacting Chukwuemeka expressed gratitude to the Assembly Members for the visit, calling it a significant honor. He reassured them of the party’s strength and dismissed claims that they were not PDP loyalists.

He praised Amaewhule for his steadfast loyalty to the PDP and acknowledged the Assembly’s role in strengthening the party’s position in the State.
