SDP Demands Probe Into Attempted Violent Attack on Abuja National Secretariat

SDP's National Secretariat in Abuja

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has called for a thorough investigation into the attempted violent attack on its National Secretariat in Abuja, insisting that security agencies must identify and prosecute not only those directly involved but also any sponsors or financiers behind the incident.

In a statement issued by Mr. Lawal Ibrahim, Special Adviser on Media to the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, the party described the attempted invasion of its secretariat by suspected hoodlums and criminal elements as a grave threat to public order, party members, and the country’s democratic process.

According to the statement, the attackers were allegedly acting in the interest of individuals seeking to impose themselves as the party’s presidential candidate ahead of future political contests.

The party further alleged that the attempted attack was aimed at disrupting activities at the secretariat before security operatives intervened to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

The SDP commended security agencies for their swift response, while urging them to intensify investigations to uncover the masterminds behind the incident.

It warned that acts of violence, intimidation, and political thuggery had no place in a democratic society, stressing that political ambition must be pursued through lawful and peaceful means.

The party also reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, rule of law, and the protection of its members and supporters across the country.
