The Diaspora members, United States chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), have expressed confidence in the capacity and experience of the presidential candidate of the party, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and his running mate, Kashim Shettima, to turn Nigeria around, if elected on February 25 to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

The APC-USA chapter said Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, does not only have what it takes to rule Nigeria considering the way he transformed Lagos economy and infrastructure in eight years (1999-2007), it also said the erstwhile governor built a political legacy, which no politician has done in the country, by building a structure that has kept and sustained Lagos and the SouthWest in the last 24 years.

Speaking during a town hall meeting tagged: “Tinubu/Shettima Renewed Hope 2023,” organised by the APC-USA National Youth Wing, held in Atlanta, Georgia, the APC-USA Youth Leader and Deputy Director North America, Oyakhilome Bello; Director of Mobilisation Directorate APC-USA Presidential Campaign Council, Adewale Jafojo, and other leaders said: “Nigeria stands to benefit immensely from the political experience of Tinubu if he is given the opportunity as president.”

In his welcome speech, Bello said time for dirty politics has gone and Nigerians and youths are no longer interested in placing a premium on it.

According to him: “We demand practical solutions to the problems/issues that are facing our country and the life of citizens. We demand solutions to those factors that hinder us from competing with the other advanced countries in today’s world.

“Nigeria has abundance of resources, enormous wealth and talents. We shouldn’t be lagging behind in any aspect of life and modern development.”

The APC-USA leader noted that most Nigerians left their country due to lack of a conducive environment to thrive and are thriving in foreign countries and in almost all fields of human endeavour. “We talk of brain drain; the primary function of government in any society is to provide security and the basic amenities thereby creating an enabling and conducive environment for citizens to thrive, also provide security. And I can assure you all that Tinubu can lead us there. His track record speaks for him. The stakes of the coming election are high and it matters a lot who we elect as our next president.

“Nigeria’s problems need practical solutions in real time, and only experienced and proven candidates like Asiwaju Tinubu can lead us there. I tell you, the journey on an already rough road will not be magic but let’s trust the process that leads us all to the country we desire and let’s give ‘Renewed Hope’ a chance,” Bello said.

The APC National Youth Leader, Dayo Israel, encouraged the youth to continue galvanising votes for Tinubu, saying the former governor of Lagos State has a well coordinated programme to lift Nigerian youths out of poverty and unemployment, giving instances of various employment and job creation opportunities Tinubu facilitated in Lagos.

He noted that under the national leader of APC as governor, several agencies were reformed that created job opportunities for the people.

Israel also noted that Tinubu is a meeting political point for different ethnic groups in Nigeria, saying, “Under the Tinubu administration, all the ethnic groups in Lagos were given the opportunity to serve and contribute to the development of the state. Ben Akabueze was made a commissioner for budget and finance, which has never happened in other states. There was also the appointment of a northerner, who headed the state’s taskforce and several others. Tinubu’s government cannot reflect nepotism and ethnicity in whatever form.”

In her remark, the APC Woman Leader, Lagos State, Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, thanked the Diaspora members for the love showered on Tinubu, while advising them to reach out to their family members to vote APC in the forthcoming general elections.

In his keynote address, the Special Guest of Honour, Director of Diaspora Directorate Tinubu Shettima PCC, Prince Ade Omole, urged all Nigerians to reach out to their loved ones to ensure victory for Tinubu/Shettima and all APC candidates.

Omole promised the Diaspora members that the agitation for all eligible Nigerians at home and abroad to be able to cast their votes during elections is in top gear, saying, “Tinubu/Shettima team would ensure that is done when they get into power.”

Chairman, Sparta Contractors, an engineering construction company, Dr. Femi Oshoniyi, described Tinubu as a visionary that is capable of assembling brains across ethnic divides to accomplish his vision. He specifically referred to how Tinubu and the successive governors after him in Lagos tackled the issue of environmental problems headlong such that Lagos became a learning school for other states in the area of environment.

Other notable speakers at the event were the APC-USA National Chairman, Professor Adesegun Labinjo, Georgia branch chairman, Kunle Masha; Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ismaila Maigyara; Hajia Suratu Abdullahi, Khairat Ajiboye, and Abdul Guga, among others.
