We are not afraid of direct primary, says Lokpobiri camp

The Senator Heineken Lokpobiri Campaign Organisation has said it is not afraid of the direct mode of primary for the election of Bayelsa State All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, which suffered its second postponement on Friday.Livingstone Egba, the organisation’s Director, Planning, Research and Strategy, said they only proposed indirect primary because it is simple and cost effective.

The organisation was speaking against the backdrop of another postponement, as announced by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, after a meeting on Friday. It was the second time in a week, after the earlier scheduled date of August 29 was rescheduled for Friday, the 30th.

In a statement after the postponement, Senator Emmanuel Ochega said the postponement was as a result of three conflicting court orders, and as a law abiding party, they deemed it wise to obey the orders. But Egba reiterated Senator Lokpobiri’s determination to emerge winner in the primary, despite the initial hiccups. He said: “Some people misconstrued it to mean we are afraid of direct primary. The Senator Heneiken Lokpobiri campaign organisation is not afraid of any mode of primary whatsoever…”
