Why constituents should support Ogah’s re-election bid – Mgbenkemdi

Dr. Amobi Godwin Ogah

A Professor of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapist, Ejike Hyacinth Mgbenkemdi, has called on the people of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency to support the re-election bid of the member representing the constituency, Dr. Amobi Godwin Ogah.

Mgbenkemdi, who hails from Umudim Ngodo, Isuochi, said the debate ahead of the  2027 elections should focus less on political sentiments and more on what representatives have achieved with the mandate entrusted to them.

He said Ogah, who entered the National Assembly in 2023, had in his first term attracted attention to healthcare, education, infrastructure, agriculture, youth development, women empowerment and economic support.

“Three years may be short in the calendar of politics, but it can be long enough to reveal something important about a leader: direction. And direction matters,” Mgbenkemdi said.

The professor said reported interventions in healthcare, including work around Isuikwuato General Hospital, Achara Hospital, medical outreaches and provision of equipment, should be assessed based on the difference they make in the lives of residents.

He also pointed to education-related interventions such as scholarships, WAEC support, classroom projects and ICT initiatives, arguing that investment in education could have effects beyond the tenure of any politician.

“A politician may leave office. A student who receives education may change an entire family,” he said.

On empowerment, Mgbenkemdi said initiatives involving grants, vehicles, tricycles, motorcycles, equipment and other forms of business support should ultimately be measured by whether they help beneficiaries become more economically independent.

He also identified roads, markets, water, electricity and other community infrastructure as areas where constituency representation should be assessed by the practical difference such projects make to residents.

According to him, a second term could give Ogah an opportunity to build on the experience and relationships gained during his first term and improve on existing interventions.

“This is not an argument for automatic re-election. It is an argument for evidence-based continuity,” he said.

He urged voters to independently examine the record of the representative before making their decision, asking them to consider what was promised, what was delivered, which communities benefited and what remains unfinished.

He said the 2027 elections should ultimately be about the future of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi and the ability of any candidate to deliver meaningful representation.

“Measure leadership by impact. Measure representation by results. Measure promises against performance,” he said.
