Says no more agitation for Yoruba nation

The Yoruba World Congress (YWC) has endorsed the candidature of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the 2023 presidential polls.

The group, which is one of those agitating for Oduduwa Republic from Nigeria, added that with Tinubu as the flagbearer of the APC in the coming presidential election, there was no more need for an independent Yoruba nation.

The YWC leader, Ekiti State chapter, Adeyemi Oluwasegun, who gave the endorsement in Ado-Ekiti, expressed confidence that Tinubu would win the election, adding that the belief necessitated the change of mindset of the group from having agitation for secession to clamouring for unity of Nigeria.

He said that the YWC believes in the interest of Tinubu whose vision and manifesto are geared towards the progress of Nigeria. He said: “YWC is the first Yoruba group to formally endorse Tinubu. The purpose of this endorsement is to ensure he wins the election with wide margin.”

“This is because we found out that with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a Yoruba man that the APC has picked to be the presidential candidate of the party, the interest of the race will be better served under his presidency. We have now changed the narrative from agitation for secession to clamour for unity in Nigeria.

“The message we are preaching is that now, it’s our turn, but it’s not just about our turn as a right, we are all saying that the unity of Nigeria is sacrosanct.

“We don’t want to be disruptive because we have tried the diplomacy way and the advocacy way. Now, we are doing it from the political because we believe in the interest.

“We believe in what Asiwaju is presenting to the public. We believe in his plans looking at his manifesto. We believe that with Asiwaju, the betterment of Nigeria is possible. We urge all our people to join this movement for Tinubu because we have only one Yoruba and it’s only a Yoruba man that can make Yoruba grow.”

On his part, Deputy Chairman of APC in Ekiti State, Mr. Sola Elesin, said that plans had been concluded to ensure that Tinubu is victorious at the polls.

Eleshin, who said that a committee had been set up to ensure victory at the polls, commended the YWC for the endorsement, adding that over 95 support groups are rooting for Tinubu.
