The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has announced the winners of the party’s primary elections for the three Senatorial zone across the State.
This medium authoritatively report that Senator Ikra Aliyu Bilbis was elected to represent the Zamfara Central Senatorial district, Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari retained his seat unopposed, while Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura was also returned.
However, it was widely believed that there was no primary election for the National Assembly position in the State, but the party leadership had just decided to return all the incumbents.
That decision of the National secretariat of the party has sparked tensions in the State as many aspirants believe that they were cheated in the political arrangements.
One of the Senatorial aspirants from Zamfara north, Dr. Abdulahi Sani Shinkafi said that he was not comfortable with the decision of the party, saying that the party should have allowed the masses to vote for their choices.
According to him, democracy has now turned to the government of the few by the few for the few, instead of government of the people for the people by the people.
Shinkafi highlighted the implications involved in imposing candidates against the Peoples will, saying that democracy cannot strive with such system.
He vowed that he would continue to fight for his right and the rights of the masses, no matter what it takes, noting that Nigeria will remain backwards as long as this undemocratic system continue to persist in the political system.
Other contestants also said that the system is so corrupted, stressing that number of votes were given, but nobody voted as regard to the electoral laws.
“We must join forces to terminate this kind of undemocratic system of government. Because it is only in Nigeria that such system is being practiced in Nigeria”, they lamented.
