Edo lawmakers summon contractors over dilapidated roads
The Edo State House of Assembly has ordered the contractors handling the Benin-Auchi road to appear before it or risk been arrested. This is coming few weeks after the Assembly had earlier summoned the Controller of Works, Oke Oweh to appear before it on the poor state of the Benin/Auchi road.
According to him, the road has caused great pains to both indigenes of the state and other Nigerians who pass through pass the road to Abuja. Oweh informed the angry lawmakers that work is ongoing now and that the road is much better now than it was due to the ongoing work.
The speaker who did not hide his angst on the issue said, “We will like the contractors handling the road project to appear before us. And we expect you to put into writing details of the entire transactions because our people cannot continue to suffer untold hardship along that road. If the contractors fail to appear we will order for their arrest¨, he stated.
It would be recalled that the Speaker of the House, Alhaji Kabiru Adjoto was in Abuja with members of the house penultimate week to protest the state of the bad road as well as appealed to the Federal Government to find lasting solutions to the problem.
