Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde has charged residents on the need to embrace waste-to-wealth initiatives to create a healthy environment. He spoke during the first anniversary of “ Planet 3R” initiative, held at Adegbayi, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The governor, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Environment, Mr. Ademola Aderinto, warned the residents against burning of refuse, saying the state would soon be arresting people caught in such act. He lauded the founder of Planet 3R initiative, Miss Adejoke Lasisi, saying it will improve the environment.

“She is converting sachets to something useful. This is a waste-to-wealth initiative. We need to embrace it. Burning waste is not good for our environment. The youth must make a difference,” he said.

In her remarks, Lasisi explained that the initiative was aimed at converting waste into useful products, thereby reducing waste in the environment.

She added that the initiative was also meant to create employment opportunity to the youths. Lasisi revealed plans to sensitise 4,300 students and youths on recycling.
