FG begins waste-to-wealth scheme in Abia

The Federal Government has commenced its waste to wealth programme in the South-east zone with the launch of the project in Abia State.

Minister of Science and Technology Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu while flagging off the programe in Umuahia, Abia state capital, said that the state was chosen due to its importance as the leading State for Small and Medium Scale Enterprises.

The minister said the programme will help to create wealth and jobs, reduce poverty, defeat hunger and stimulate national consciousness in the power of science and technology as an important instrument for nation building.

Nigeria, which he said needed the spirit of enterprise development that would drive the economy, has a lot to benefit from turning heaps of garbage to generate wealth and usher in a new order of sustainable development and enduring prosperity for the nation”.

Dr Onu stated that the waste -to wealth programme is systemic technology -driven and it is sustainable for waste management to create employment, wealth and change the livelihood of its citizens.

Onu expressed confidence that the objective would be actualized stressing that every Nigerian, irrespective of social status, religious persuasion and ethnic origin has the right to live a decent life.

The state governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu said that with the technology driven programme, the future bright for the youths.
