The Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGoF), has established a climate change division under the department of Geodesy to generate weather data and enhance the precision of forecast daily.

The Surveyor General of the Federation Samuel Taiwo disclosed this when he was led by the Head of the department, Pius Omoshowon on a tour of the facility. Taiwo during the tour called for synergy with the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and other relevant authorities to improve the forecast.

Taiwo also said that the agency was committed to providing requisite geospatial needs, helping MDAs increase their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), stressing that OSGoF is well-positioned to fulfill its mandate of providing data for the public.

He added that the ongoing arrangement with OSGoF to further improve operations of the aviation authorities would be sustained, hoping that they would team up with MDAs to have an impact on the national system.

Speaking on the scheme, Omoshowon explained that with the number of Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) positioned in various parts of the country, they would stream highly reliable data.

According to him, OSGoF was capable of generating accurate data for weather projection in the country, adding that this achievement is expected to boost measures taken by the government to ensure the safety of life and property, especially from weather-related disasters.
