Ministry charges procurement planning committee on professionalism
For efficient delivery of its programmes and projects, the Lagos State Ministry of Housing has inaugurated its procurement planning committee in line with the state public procurement law.
Speaking at the inauguration of the committee in Lagos, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of the housing, Abdulhafis Toriola, an engineer, advised the committee members to carry out their task with utmost professionalism.
He disclosed that the ministry has also included new ideas and innovations to drive its service delivery for the year.
Toriola stated that the ministry is aware of the importance of procurement planning and how it makes the process of accessing yearly budgets seamless.
He further informed the committee that various new initiatives to promote the sustainability of government-owned estates are embedded in the Ministry’s 2025 procurement plan.
The committee comprises the permanent secretary as the chairman, heads of departments and units of the ministry. The inauguration of the committee attracted the Director General Public Procurement Agency, Fatai Onafowote, who was represented by Head of the Procurement Department of the agency, Mr Akintunde Subair.
The Director General highlighted that the functions of the committee shall include, among others, preparation of needs assessment and evaluation, identifying the works and services required by the ministry, as well as analysing the cost implications of all proposed procurement.
He lauded the ministry for its pro-activeness and in ensuring that its activities are in accordance with the Procurement Law of Lagos State.
He explained that the procurement plan is a living document that can be reviewed, when necessary, in line with the law.
Also speaking, the secretary of the committee, Mrs Adejoke Ojo, who is also the Director of Procurement Unit, commended the permanent secretary, head of department and unit for their support.
