Abigail Oridupa explores Afrobeat in Yanmu Yanmu
Popular actor, screenwriter and singer, Abigail Oridupa has returned with her sophomore record dubbed, Yanmu Yanmu.
In the folk-Esque Afrobeat bop, the singer matches her lithe vocal energy with satirical themes.
Unlike her first record, Eldorado, which was a romantic song about fulfilment and commitment, Yanmu Yanmu soars with introspection, exciting listeners with its reflective lyrics, horn sequence and lively chorus delivered to ignite hope in the minds of the people.
Produced by Opatamedu, Yanmu Yanmu addresses the effect of bad governance in Nigeria. “All along, my vision has been to sing songs and to tell stories that will impact lives positively. There is so much strife and discontentment with the system and anger in the land owing to bad governance. So rather than add to people’s problems by telling negative stories, I think it is best to ignite hope in the minds of the people hence this song which I believe will ignite the needed hope,” she tells Weekend Beats.
An advocate of peace and nature lover, Abigail has written so many songs across different genres such as chants, pop, RnB, gospel and rap. She has also earned scripts and original song credits for several Nollywood movies.
