Adinoyi’s award puts spotlight on television’s role in brand protection

Adinoyi

The HitList N Cruzin and AIT Music Plus producer, Mursty Adinoyi, has called on corporate organisations to strengthen their use of newspapers, radio and television for public education, warning that reduced visibility of established brands on local media could make it harder for consumers to identify genuine products.

He made the appeal after receiving the African Outstanding Television Producer and Music Entertainment Personality of the Year 2026 award at the African Global Excellence Award (AGEA) ceremony in Lagos at the weekend.

While the recognition celebrates his contribution to television and music entertainment, his message also draws attention to a wider responsibility of the media and corporate sector: helping consumers make informed choices in a market where counterfeit products remain a public concern.

He urged corporate leaders, particularly in the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries, to work with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and other relevant bodies to promote awareness and protect consumers.

Adinoyi argued that trusted media platforms could play a stronger role in helping the public distinguish authentic goods from counterfeit alternatives. He expressed concern that consumers were finding it increasingly difficult to recognise the original packaging of everyday household products, which he linked to their reduced presence on Nigerian television.

According to him, public education and brand-protection campaigns should form a central part of companies’ corporate social responsibility programmes, rather than being treated solely as commercial advertising.

The appeal gives the award significance beyond personal recognition. For Nigeria, where consumer awareness and product authenticity have implications for public health, sustained collaboration among manufacturers, regulators and media organisations could strengthen the reach of safety information. However, such campaigns would need clear, practical guidance to help consumers identify genuine products and report suspected counterfeits.

Reflecting on the honour, Adinoyi described it as a collective achievement, acknowledging the people and institutions that supported his work. He commended AGEA for recognising his contribution, saying the award was “a massive encouragement to keep pushing the boundaries of television and entertainment production.”
