Please, Leave Aunty Hilda Alone!
Veteran Nollywood actor, Hilda Dokubo, has been under fire in the last couple of days from the ‘Soro Soke’ and #Endsars Nigerians. There was nothing both young and old on social media did not tell the over 50 years old woman and she was so riled up, she had to do a video to push back on her traducers and that even made matters worse because the comments section of the video, was taken over by the same attackers and at a point, T4T felt very sorry for the actor whose trademark during her prime in Nollywood was her prowess for crying convincingly in every movie.
Now, what was Hilda Dokubo’s crime(s)? Before T4T will answer this question, let him first give you a background to the issue. When Dokubo’s Nollywood career dimmed, she delved into politics and in 2023, she became, well, a force in Rivers State political arena and even became the women’s leader of her political that almost pulled an upset in that year’s general elections even though it failed to upend the ruling party. Since then, she has not let up. As the general elections scheduled for early next year gathers momentum, a big political masquerade in the state has taken over the entire space with his coalition, perhaps the first of its kind in Nigeria that cuts across all political parties, all in support of the ruling party.
The political actor is not so popular among the youths even though that does not matter to him or other real players as he appears to having his way. Also, aunty Hilda has been ‘forming’ activist alongside her political career. She belongs to the present set of Nigerians that believe if you don’t tow their line, or support the candidates they support, you “hate” Nigeria and don’t want her to make progress. As twisted and intolerant as this line of reasoning is, it is really popular among a small number of the younger generation. Hilda is among the few older people driving this warped ideology.
And then, something happened late last week. Hilda Dokubo and another popular actress were photographed with the man who is driving the coalition for the ruling party, the same man some young people cuss daily when they wake up as if he is responsible for the current rising cost of petroleum products across the world.
That was when they turned against their beloved aunty Hilda, accusing her of ‘selling out’ and joining the camp of the ‘oppressors’. T4T saw the flustered actress first trying to explain her presence at the home of the ‘oppressor’, and not that she visited in the dead of the night, she was even photographed grinning from ear to ear. At a point in her push back video, she resorted to bluffing the issue away, claiming she did not join any coalition and even if she wanted to, she won’t join through the window, “I will go through the door”, she said, suggesting she was too big a political figure in the state to quietly belong to any association without a loud ceremony. But what more loud ceremony does she want again when all the political bigwig were present at the event where she was photographed?
Anyway, aunty Hilda, this is an advise from T4T. There is no shame in politics especially in Nigeria, so, enough of this braggadocio. Politics is a game of interest, most of it, personal. Go and join coalition in Rivers state if you wan join, nor dey look your fans face. Broker a deal for your fans and yourself and save us this drama.
