Around and about moviedom in one week
Just the third week in September and some screen celebrities are in the news for the right reasons…
Odunlade Adekola and Omowunmi Dada Are In Toronto For TIFF
LEADING Nollywood actors Odunlade Adekola and Omowunmi Dada are currently in Toronto for the Toronto International International Film Festival. They had accompanied other cast members and crew to attend the world premiere of Biyi Bandele’s epic film Elesin Oba that was co-produced by EbonyLife Films and Netflix.
The movie premiered on September 10, 2022, and it was well received and applauded. The audience was in awe, as Adekola who played the titular character Elesin Oba, Shaffy Bello who played Iyaoloja and Omowunmi Dada who played the young bride acquitted themselves as creditably. So, if for any reason, Adekola, Bello and Dada don’t return with the crew this weekend, it must be that the Mayor of Toronto may have extended their stay so that Adekola and Dada can have an off screen show of that scene where Dada distracts him from performing his duties. We come in Peace!
Alexx Ekubo Joins Smart Home Landlords In Lagos
THIS is not about popular Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo and his embattled former wife Fancy Acholonu. No, it is not. It is about the handsome Nollywood actor moving into his own smart home in Lagos and bidding farewell to the problem between some Lagos Landlords and their tenants.
The excited actor and acclaimed Nollywood lover boy took to his social media timeline to share a video of the new house, which comes with luxurious interior designs. This was the text that accompanied the video of the smart house that was dotted with a few choice rides: “New Month, New Home. Thank you Lord for the Gift of a new home. I am Grateful.”
Congratulations bro on acquiring the multi-million naira mansion. Readers of this page said I should ask when the house washing would take place?

World Patience ‘Mama Gee’ Ozokwo Day Was Lit
IT was world Mama Gee day on September 14, and as expected, her colleagues and fans turned up massively to celebrate the veteran actress as turned 64. Although some of her younger colleagues had planned a surprise for her in her Ngwo residence in Enugu state, they had arrived Ngwo with cakes and drinks only be to be told that Mama Gee had travelled to the United States and will be marking her birthday with one of her granddaughters who was a year older on September 14.
But the absence of the actress of vast credit did not stop the fun for Ozokwo who hold a national honour award of Member of The Federal Republic (MFR). On her day, the actress got loads of congratulatory messages after she shared a post on her social media handle.
In the first post she shared, Ozokwo wrote: “My birthday is always a time of thanksgiving, praise and reflection I am the one who God has shown mercy I am the one who God has blessed Thank God for another blessed year.”
Mama Gee’s timeline buzzed with lovely messages shortly after she pushed on the sent button. Kate Henshaw, Stephanie Okere, Monalisa Chinda, Mercy Aigbe and Ken Erics were some of the early callers to her timeline. This was Kate Henshaw’s terse message to award winning actress: “Mummy!!!! Happy Happy birthday to you. God bless you and keep you in long life and good health.”
Happy birthday Mama Gee! Hope you remember to bring us the remnant of that big birthday cake you cut in the US?
That Yinka Quadri’s 63rd Birthday Shindig
THE 63rd surprise birthday party organised in honour of Veteran Nollywood actor Yinka Quadri may have come and gone, but what has been trending is the petty quarrel between notable actress Fausat Balogun, known as Madam Saje and Modupe Johnson, best known as Fali Werepe.
The two notable actress threw shades at each other at Quadri’s 63rd birthday party. Matters got to the head when Madam Saje, while giving a remark at the shindig, claimed that she had known the celebrant for nearly 50 years. Madam Saje had hardly completed the statement when she got an exclamatory response from Fali Werepe who thinks that her claim to knowing Quadri for 50 years was a bit of an exaggeration, a reaction Madam Saje considered an insult.
And this was how she reacted: “Fali, I senior you in this profession – let’s say it in public, I don’t talk too much, I am your Oga.”
Efforts were immediately made by colleagues to calm frayed nerves. But in a quick reaction, Fali Werepe had explained, “When she said she has been with Yinka for over 50 years, I shouted ahhhhh, and I am not the only one who shouted ahhhh. People know when we started filming, but we haven’t been in the industry for 50 years. Me and Abeni are friends, and we can’t fight, but we haven’t been in the industry for 50 years.”
And how did Quadri who is popular as Masomo handle the whole matter? He showed on Instragram almost two days after the shindig and wrote: “Friendship isn’t about who came first… it’s about who came and never left… Anything is possible when you have the right people there to support you.”
How this answer the petty quarrel beats us at Moviedom.
