Nigerian songwriter and recording artiste Adinu Samuel Mauthon, popularly known as Adinu, has stepped further into the spotlight with the release of his six-track project, The Appetizer, as he seeks to establish himself as a solo artiste.
Released on October 9, 2026, through Madhouse Records, the project marks a new phase in Adinu’s career, following his work as a songwriter for other artistes under the pseudonym Thenigpen.
Adinu, also known as The Shepherd, has built a songwriting portfolio that includes contributions to songs by emerging and established acts. His credits include “Girly Girl” for RU, while he also released the song “Worth Living” under his Thenigpen identity.
He further co-wrote “Dangerous” and “Dance” on Ayra Starr’s 2026 album, *Starrgirl*. On October 11, 2026, “Dangerous” featured in the closing segment of Ayra Starr’s halftime performance at the NFL London Game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, bringing the song to a wider international audience.
With The Appetizer, Adinu shifts attention to his own voice, offering listeners a six-track collection that explores different moods, from personal reflection to dancefloor rhythms.
The project features songs including “Dear Father”, “My Lane”, “Bonanza” and “Is It Over”. On “Dear Father”, the singer explores vulnerability and personal struggles, while “My Lane” presents a more relaxed and confident side of his artistry.
“Bonanza” leans towards upbeat, celebratory sounds, while “Is It Over” showcases his willingness to explore different musical styles and appeal to listeners across generations.
Adinu’s musical journey has also been shaped by his academic background. He studied Law at Lagos State University, a qualification that could prove useful in navigating the business side of the music industry, particularly issues surrounding contracts, intellectual property and songwriting rights.
His partnership with Madhouse Records, an independent label operating in Nigeria and the United States, is expected to support his transition from behind-the-scenes songwriting to a more prominent performing career.
The label supported his earlier releases as Thenigpen and is now backing his solo ambitions with The Appetizer, as both parties seek to expand his reach beyond Nigeria.
The title of the project suggests that the six tracks are an introduction to a broader musical vision, with the artiste positioning the release as the beginning of a longer journey rather than a definitive statement of his sound.
The Appetizer is available on major music streaming platforms.
