A court in Lagos has granted the Kukere master, Iyanya Onoyom Mbukm, who is better known by his stage name, Iyanya, bail following a car theft charge by the police.

The Your Waist crooner was on Thursday, February 27, granted him bail of N20m by Justice Mobolanle Okikiolu-Ighile of the Igbosere High Court. The Judge also ordered him to produce a surety in like sum. He further specified that the surety must have a landed property in Lagos, with a Certificate of Occupancy.

Iyanya was also given seven days to fulfill the term or risk it being revoked. Recall the police had reportedly filed the charges against the singer back in 2019.

The Guardian gathered that the one-count charge marked LD/9024c/201 was filed on March 15, 2019, but the winner of Season One, Project Fame West Africa did not show up before the court. The Judge concluded that the ‘Headies 2013 Artiste of the Year’ does have a case to answer regarding the allegations.

“I have perused the affidavit and counter-affidavit of the parties; there is a prima facie case of criminal conversion case against him. There is nothing to show that the defendant will interfere with the proceedings of the case and nothing to show that he will jump bail if granted,” Justice Okikiolu-Ighile said.

Men of the Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) Ikoyi, had brought the My Story singer before the court, after he was accused of stealing a Toyota Prado SUV belonging to his former management company, the Temple Management Company (TMC). His arraignment was stalled due to his failure to appear before the court.

The Sexy Mama crooner was compelled to appear in court on February 4, after the presiding judge threatened to issue a bench warrant on him. Iyanya pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He was released to his lawyer Williams A. following a promise to produce the singer in court at the next hearing, which was on Thursday, February 27. Meanwhile, March 17, 2020 have been set aside as the date for commencement of the trial.
