After hosting The African Film Festival, TAFF, for three years now, US-based multiple award-winning film maker, Kelechi Eke has recorded another milestone with the launch of ROOTFLIX, a streaming and distribution platform for festival-qualified films.

Announcing the launch of the platform, Eke said, “the vision is not only to host culturally rich motion pictures that come through festivals, but also, a platform where filmmakers can look back and appreciate their humble beginnings in film making… their root.”

On why he resolved to introduce the platform, the filmmaker said the decision was based on popular demand by African filmmakers, who could not attend the yearly African Film Festival, TAFF, in Dallas.

“I received many questions from film makers that couldn’t attend TAFF: Where can we see those great films that were screened at TAFF? I had no answer. When I thought about it, I realised that many quality films that go through festivals end up without distribution. I was motivated to create a platform for such films. Being a Software Engineer in film, and knowing the distribution challenge that we face; I felt as though I would have failed many colleagues if I did not do my own part in finding a part solution.”

“In 2017, I started to design and programme a distribution platform for festival-qualified films.Today, in the Black History Month of 2019, ROOTFLIX is Live. With ROOTFLIX, I have answered the question where one can watch the work of talented storytellers that often go unheard of.”

ROOTFLIX, he said, is available on Google Play and coming soon at Apple Store.
