With the saturation of Afro-pop melodies within the Nigerian music scene, whenever one listens to sounds like Lovn’s just-released This Is Lovn EP, it’s always a breath of fresh air.
Charles “LOVN” Akinloye is a Nigerian singer and songwriter, who is regarded by many as one of the best emerging talents out of the country. LOVN, who is a man of many talents as he’s also got his hands in make-up artistry and dancing, aims to write his name in the lineage of Nigerian music superstars to have come to limelight through the route of rigorously contested talent shows.
In 2019, he accompanied a friend to the Access The Stars auditions without any intention to participate but registered at the venue, beginning a journey that ended with him winning the competition in April 2020.
With his just-released self-titled debut project, he forays down the path of genre bending, as the project is a fine representation of his influences. In This Is Lovn, Lovn melds age-old and neo-Africa sonics, including Fuji, Salsa music, among others.
After successfully releasing the project’s first single dubbed Abena, earlier this year, it was followed up by Caution, another single off the project. This Is Lovn is out across all streaming platforms.
