The Guy! That’s who MI Abaga is now, as he has teased his newest moniker, which is set to chaperone his forthcoming studio album of the same title.

Born Jude Abaga, MI Abaga aka ‘The Guy’, honed his impact for over 15 years as Africa’s greatest rapper, discovering and grooming some of Nigerians most remarkable talent, alongside. He preludes his fifth studio album, and 12th compilation soundpiece, The Guy, with a lead single of the same title.

The record sees MI flow over a mid-tempo drill beat, with ego-stroking bars and his typical intriguing cadence. In The Guy, MI Abaga affirms his relevance as one of the most iconic rappers out of Africa, saying that he is a “five star general in the rap game; I’ve done my thing/ Killing it with the rap in three different generations, call man King.”

In a chat with Weekend Beats, he explains that the record is a statement to the “foundational relevance of the artiste, a call to keep pushing and a self-celebratory declaration of clear excellence.”

On The Guy, MI Abaga reminds fans of why he first tasted mainstream success in 2008, with his debut album, Talk About It. This record soars as the J-town rapper’s full-circle moment, teasing into the theme of the imminent album.
