
Organisers of the much-anticipated and eagerly-awaited Nigeria Comedy Awards (NCA) have unveiled the names of nominees for the 2023 edition of the event, which aimed to honour the outstanding achievements in Nigeria’s robust comedy industry.
The full list, which is available on the awards Instagram page @NigeriaComedyAwards, show names of individuals and works that have made great impact in Nigeria’s comedy industry, cutting across Stand-up Comedy, TV Series, Radio, Online Skits, Movies, Actors, Animation, and other areas.
The list include Basketmouth, Mercy Johnson, Tomama, Broda Shaggi, Real Warri Pikin, Kenny Blaq, Taaooma, Sabinus, Battle on Bukka Street, Mr Macaroni, Bovi, My Flatmates, Helen Paul, Passport, Ajebo, Success, Jude OC, Bimbo Ademoye ,Yaw, Kiriku, Powski, Solomon VI, Dada Adekola, The Johnsons, Josh2Funny and Charles Inojie, among others.
The Co-Executive Producer of the awards, Wole Adenuga, said, “as the event draws nearer, we are well-aware of the high level of anticipation by nominees, as well as their fans across Nigeria and worldwide. We are working intensively with Indomie Noodles, Airtel, Malta Guinness, Peak Milk, Fanta, and other brands who have partnered with us to make the event a great success.
“One of the highlights of the night would be the ‘Revelation of the Year’ Category, which has Layi Wasabi and Soso as nominees, with the winner receiving a cash prize of N1,000,000 in addition to the plaque which other winners would be receiving,” he added.
According to Adenuga, the maiden edition of the awards will hold on Sunday, September 24, at the Eko Conference Centre, Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, with 1,000 people expected to be in attendance physically, and watched by millions across the world on wapTV (DStv 262, StarTimes 116, GOtv 129, FreeTV 751, Play 275, and MyTV), R2TV (GOtv 145), RaveTV (GOtv 146, FreeTV 745), and other stations.
The awards is supported by Filmhouse Cinemas, AIT Network, Royal Roots TV, Pop Central, African Movie Channel, Rave TV, Royal Roots Cinemas, Smooth 98.1FM, Goldmyne TV, Kennis 104.1FM, Royal Roots 107.1FM and other media organisations.
Adenuga stated that with the organising team made up of Founder Afrotainment, Bunmi Davies as Event Producer; Executive Director Royal Roots Communication Network, Debbie Odutayo as Project Consultant; Managing Director, Wale Adenuga Productions, Wale Adenuga Jnr. and Wole Adenuga, Managing Director, wapTV as Executive Producers, the glamorous event is set to be a yearly ceremony that honours the outstanding performers and projects in Nigeria’s robust comedy industry.
“‘The Revelation of the Year’, a category which spotlights and honours an exceptional newcomer in the nation’s diverse comedy industry, would be rewarded with N1,000,000 cash and a plaque,” Adenuga added.
