Nigeria Idol holds physical auditions today

Following the success of Nigerian Idol season six, which saw Kingdom Kroseide emerge winner, MultiChoice Nigeria recently announced the return of the competition for a seventh season starting with an online audition.

Following the success of Nigerian Idol season six, which saw Kingdom Kroseide emerge winner, MultiChoice Nigeria recently announced the return of the competition for a seventh season starting with an online audition.

Auditions for the seventh season of Nigerian Idol opened Sunday, November 14 and closed Sunday, November 28, 2021. Interested contestants between age 16-30 were requested to upload a 60 seconds video of them singing any song of their choice to www.africamagic.tv. 

Done with the online selection process, MultiChoice will today hold a physical audition for Nigerian Idol season 7, at the Colossus Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos. The physical auditions will be the last phase of the audition process for Nigerian Idol season 7, and will commence by 9 am. Intending participants are to come along with their passport or NIN card as proof of identification.

Announcing the new season, Executive Head, Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice Nigeria, Busola Tejumola, said: “MultiChoice remains committed to promoting and giving young music talents in Nigeria a platform to shine and actualize their dreams. Season seven promises to be even bigger and more entertaining. So if you believe you have what it takes to be the next Nigerian Idol, be a part of the auditions starting November 14.”

Nigerian Idol season 7 will air on DStv and GOtv in February 2022 and is proudly sponsored by BIGI Drinks.

Meanwhile, as Africa’s film and creative industry continues to experience tremendous growth, MultiChoice, Africa’s most loved storyteller, remains committed to the growth of creatives and filmmakers across the continent.

The Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels, Busola Tejumola reaffirmed this commitment during the MultiChoice Showcase with African Filmmakers at the ongoing Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF)

Tejumola stated that for eighteen years, MultiChoice through the seven Africa Magic channels has given African storytellers the platform to thrive and shape the African narrative by telling stories of the past, present and future. She also added that MultiChoice has invested over $428 million developing local creative talent and is always open to new ideas and projects, while encouraging creatives to send in their works to the MultiChoice submission portal.

“Local content is at the heart of our production at MultiChoice. We create content that tell stories that are timely and fit into the current realities of the society. We create our own original content with our locally sourced production crew and infrastructure, investing heavily in the future of Nigeria and Nigerians. We are also always open to strategic collaborations hence why we encourage creatives to pitch their content,” said Tejumola.

Her presentation was followed by a panel session where she was joined by Film Director, James Omokwe; respected Filmmaker and the pioneer Academy Director of the MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF), Femi Odugbemi; MTF Alumnus, Moses Akerele and Actor, Ijeoma Aniebo who served as the moderator. The panelists shared how MultiChoice has been instrumental to their growth trajectory from giving them training opportunities both within and outside Nigeria to commissioning stories like Battleground, Riona, Ajoche among many others.

While speaking on the panel, Tejumola reiterated “MultiChoice is always looking to discover, support and reward talent doing amazing work as evident in the establishment of the MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) and the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCAs).”
