One of Nigeria’s rapidly-growing fintech companies, Plug.Ng has marked its first anniversary, celebrating one year of providing digital payment solutions, while announcing that it has grown to more than 52,000 users across the country since its launch on August 1, 2025.
The company founded to simplify access to digital financial services, said it has expanded from a payment platform into a one-stop digital ecosystem where users can buy airtime and data, pay diverse utility bills, trade gift cards, create virtual dollar cards, fund betting wallets, purchase event tickets, access education services, and use eSIM connectivity for international travels.
Speaking on the milestone, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder, Plug.Ng, Sam Aiyesoro, described the company’s first year as a journey driven by innovation, the resilience and the confidence of its users.
“About a year ago, my co-founder, Adetayo, and I teamed up on a massive mission to build an app that would be a Plug.Ng to become an essential part of the daily lives of internet users in Nigeria. Today, over 50,000 Nigerians are enjoying what we built, but I must confess that it was not an overnight success,” Aiyesoro said.
He expressed his gratitude to the platform’s customers and partners, adding that their support had been instrumental to the company’s growth.
“Without the patronage of our users, the support of our partners, merchants and creativity of our event organisers, we would not have come this far. As we celebrate this milestone, we remain committed to building better products, also delivering seamless experiences, and creating more value for every Nigerian. This is only the beginning,” he noted.
According to the company, Plug.Ng has recorded several milestones within its first year, including serving more than 52,000 users, supported 82 events, accredited over 40,000 event attendees, and building a network of more than 500 agents across Nigeria. These achievements reveal to the world the company’s rapid growth within Nigeria’s digital payments space even during its first year of operations.
As part of its expansion, the company launched Eventsplug.ng in September 2025 to provide digital ticketing, accreditation, and event management solutions. It said the platform introduced Nigeria’s first custom event entry while supporting major events such as the Golden Penny Children’s Day Festival 2026, Golden Penny Food Fest and Soup Festival, Different Shades of Ozain, and the Abuja Culture Carnival.
Plug.Ng also expanded its services with the launch of Plug Business – Business.plug.ng in March 2026, enabling businesses to integrate digital payments services through application programming interfaces (APIs) without developing their own payment infrastructure.
It should be noted that the company unveiled Plug.Ng eSIM, recently, a data-only connectivity service available in more than 150 countries. The product allows travellers to activate mobile data instantly, top up in Naira, and stay connected without relying on roaming services or purchasing local SIM cards.
In the euphoric spirit of celebrating its one year anniversary, Plug.Ng announced that customers will enjoy discounts across some selected services throughout the month of August 2026. The company reiterated that it remains focused on expanding financial inclusion, its technology infrastructure, and also delivering innovative digital payment solutions that meet the evolving needs of individuals and businesses across Nigeria and also in Africa.
