Put your best fashion foot forward this Eid
Thanks to the new flock of Muslimah fashion bloggers and today’s crop of women, Muslim fashion has been giving us new life in the last couple of years and for this year’s Eid el Kabir, we know we are in for a fashion treat.
Eid el Kabir or Eid al Adha (Feast of the Sacrifice) popularly known as Ileya in Nigeria is a great time to show off the latest fashions possible as families and friends get together to celebrate in a big way.
Muslims who can afford to, will travel to Mecca in Saudi Arabia on pilgrimage but for those of us that wouldn’t be going to Mecca this year, we intend to look our possible best while feting with friends and loved ones.
With this new crop of modest-fashion-lovers, a whole new perspective on how you can dress as a Muslim lady has been opened and more and people are falling in love with it. Be it abayas, trendy kimonos or even stylish maxi dresses, as a Muslim lady you can wear them all while still keeping with your religious beliefs and look fantastic. These days, the abayas, hijabs have improved in style and have become trendier, more form fitting, blinged out, colourful and layered compared to what obtained in the past. If you want to splurge this season, you can get branded hijabs or abayas to match sophistication, modesty and luxury this Ileya.
Just remember that while looking stunning, you still want to be comfortable and not lose your ability to move freely as you will be busy throughout the day. Not forgetting accessories, which can make or mar your outfit, mix and match as appropriate. Purses and shoes should coordinate and complement your outfit as well as your hijabs or scarves. If you are using makeup, use in moderation and don’t forget to apply sunscreen if you are going to be in the sun.
As usual, we have put together some looks to guide you in your choice of outfits, whether traditional or western. Which look would you consider going for?
