Queen Moremi, The Musical on stage

As part of the grand finale for Queen Moremi Ajasoro (QMA) 2017, organisers of the yearly cultural beauty pageant have announced that Moremi The Musical will featured at the event.

As part of the grand finale for Queen Moremi Ajasoro (QMA) 2017, organisers of the yearly cultural beauty pageant have announced that Moremi The Musical will featured at the event.

Billed for December 3, at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos, a statement released by the Ambassador of Moremi Legacy, Princess Ronke Ademiluiy, revealed that the musical show with be headlined by tested names as Gbenga Yusuf, who is slated as the director of the debutant show.

Yusuf is noted as the producer of Flower The Musical and the dance director of Wakaa and Saro the musicals. Also featuring as choreographer is Victor Phullu as the dance instructor. Phullu has successfully managed eight seasons of Maltina Dance All competition.

The musical will tell in a moving manner the story of the legendary Queen Moremi, a Princess from Offa who was married to Oranmiyan, the ruler of Ile Ife. Through an act of bravery, selflessness and love for her people, Moremi dared death to save her people.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, who is the brain behind the project said, “Moremi Ajasoro exhibited an unrivalled heroism in fighting for liberty and dedicated her life to the liberation of mankind by sacrificing her only child to free the people of Oodua land from the invasion of some faceless terrorists, thousands of years ago.”

He emphasised the reason for the project, which is to preserve and promote the legacies of the late queen.

“Moremi remains an indelible new dawn of great awakening for the development of the Yoruba culture.  This mission is very close to my heart and touches my global re-enactment of the Yorùbá culture.”

QMA beauty pageant, which is in its second year, is on its final lap with auditioning set to hold this month. It showcases intelligent, culturally aware, strong and beautiful young ladies that exemplify the heroic attributes of Queen Moremi.

The initiative also uses beauty to promote business ideas for economic growth and youth development among young ladies. Winner of this year’s edition will receive a cash prize of N5million naira to set up her own business, a brand new car; a wardrobe of designers’ outfits from leading fashion brands.

She will also become a cultural ambassador to the Ooni of Ife.
