Qatar Airways Group has acquired a 25% stake in Airlink, Southern Africa’s leading independent regional airline, an investment that aligns with the airline goal of expanding its operations across the continent.
Airlink, which operates flights to over 45 destinations across 15 African countries, will see its code-sharing partnership with Qatar Airways enhanced as a result of the deal.
Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, expressed his enthusiasm for the investment, saying “Our partnership with Airlink underscores our unwavering belief in Africa’s potential. This strategic move not only reflects our confidence in Airlink’s resilience and financial stability but also reinforces our commitment to supporting the continent’s economic development.”
Airlink CEO, Rodger Foster, welcomed the partnership, highlighting its potential to boost growth, increase capacity, and expand marketing reach. The deal also aims to align the airlines’ loyalty programs, Qatar Airways Privilege Club and Airlink Skybucks.
He said, “Qatar Airways’ investment is a powerful endorsement of Airlink and our vision for the future. This partnership will enable us to expand our capacity, reach new markets, and enhance our overall service offerings.”
The collaboration between Qatar Airways and Airlink will also include the alignment of their loyalty programmes, Qatar Airways Privilege Club and Airlink Skybucks.
