Thesaurus Bay lights up independence day with tour of Lagos waterways

Thesaurus Bay, in partnership with Lagos State government through the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture, organised the 4th edition of Tour of Lagos Waterways on October 1, 2025 in commemoration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day.

From sailing to touring, boat cruise, cultural dances, beach pool party, music, games and others, the Tour of Lagos Waterways, which was attended by CEOs, captains of Industries and families is a testament to the beauty and luxury of the Lagos waterways

Chairman, Thesaurus Group of Companies and Thesaurus Bay Limited, Bolaji Olasode, said: “The idea for us is to look inward under local content and provide alternatives to Nigerians that want to see Lagos from a different perspective. Lagos is covered by 80 per cent water and we believe that if people are aware of what is going on in the waterways, they will prefer this as an easier, faster, and cheaper means of transportation. We are also trying to look into foreign direct investment and look at providing alternatives for foreign travels for tourism. We have the endangered species protection areas, tour of Omu terminals, some real estate investments and government infrastructures in these areas.”

Olasode who implored the government to invest in public private partnership said: “We have been partnering with Lagos State Waterways Authority LASWA. They have given us a lot of support. We are also partnering with the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and the Ministry of Home Affairs. We have been partnering with them on the tour of the waterways and they have been encouraging us through provision of water guards, boats and support.”

The Secretary and Legal Adviser, Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) Oyindamola Ade-Alli, said: “Although Lagos State is predominantly surrounded by water, we have a lot of people that have suffered from water phobia, so people would rather be on the road and be stuck in traffic for hours instead of taking the waterways and getting to their destinations in minutes. This is why it is imperative for us to create awareness with this event and let people know that the Lagos waterways is safe. The idea is to put people at ease and let them realise that waterways are not as bad as people think. Safety measures have been put in place which makes the waterways more reliable and a faster means of transportation.

“We believe that water transportation is the future of movement in Lagos,” Noah Ibrahim of Noveric Homes and Property Ltd stated. He said: “Thesaurus Bay is opening up more jetties all around Lagos to help people move around Lagos. We want to expose people to the fact that the waterways are safe if they follow through with all safety measures.”
