IT was two days of excitement and motivation for students and staff of the University of Calabar as Cliqfest, Etisalat Nigeria’s youth-centric edutainment initiative, made its final stop for the year 2015, after visiting 16 tertiary institutions in the country.

Like in other tertiary institutions that had experienced the Cliqfest storm since its debut, the students turned up in large numbers for the two-day event which included a seminar by renowned motivational speaker, Niyi Adesanya who dished out nuggets on how to succeed in the market place.

It also featured a football match, a rap music contest, dancing competition, a raffle draw and an exciting concert headlined by the winners of Seasons Four and Five of the Etisalat-sponsored Nigerian Idol, Evelle and K-Peace as well as the respective runners up of both seasons, Idowu Odugbemi known as Eye-D and Dolu.

The climax of the event was the emergence of Violet Ukama, a 400 Level student of Soil Science as winner of the star prize, a Hyundai i10 car, in a raffle draw.

Speaking after receiving her car key, an overwhelmed Ukama thanked Etisalat for the “unbelievable gift.”

“I just finished my exams yesterday and here I am winning a car today. It is unbelievable! I am so excited; I really don’t know what to say. A very big thank you to Etisalat for giving me this opportunity,” the said.

The Dean, Student Affairs, University of Calabar, Prof. Eyong Ubana said the university was grateful to Etisalat Nigeria for visiting the school, and commended the company for taking a huge interest in Nigerian youths, especially students of tertiary institutions.

“I am happy that they chose University of Calabar for this programme. I am equally happy that one of our students won a car, and we are hopeful that they will come again next year,” he said.

Manager, Youth Segment at Etisalat Nigeria, Idiareno Atimomo remarked that Cliqfest is a platform that allows Etisalat to engage with its customers, while bringing them fun, entertainment and learning.

“Cliqfest takes us to 16 tertiary institutions annually – Federal and State Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education. We do not discriminate because the youths are important to us; they are the future, and also rank as some of our best customers who are loyal to us. So, this is our own unique way of showing our appreciation to them,” he said.
