Nigerian rap prodigy, Olarenwaju Ogunmefun, better known as Vector, has lent his voice to the ongoing war against drug abuse and addiction in the country, especially among young people.
The father-of-one, whose pedigree as a ‘barrack boy’ and son of the late police officer Teslim Ogunmefun continues to blur any surprise on his social commentary, activism and didactic lifestyle, made this call on his X (hitherto known as Twitter) account.
“To all our guys who let drugs ruin things for them, Una loseguard sha (you gave up).
We saw this life growing up and swore we would never end up like that. We may have grown distant, but I still wish you calm in the storm. It is sad that you can’t even leave your guy (friend) around your child, because they are unstable from drugs. I don’t judge anyone, but it’s the loved ones around us that it affects the most. Anyways, may God help you walk out of the darkness you walked into by yourself,” he said.
The award-winning rapper further took out time to respond to some of his followers who sought his advice on next-steps out of their personal struggles with hard drugs, counselling them individually with helpful tips and encouragement.
Over time, while the menace of drug abuse and addiction has been argued to be influenced by entertainers, a number of notable figures in the entertainment industry have lent their voices publicly to the war against drug abuse in the country, including 2face Idibia, Joeboy, Sunny Nneji, Olamide, among others.
