Grammy-nominated Afrobeats powerhouse Ayra Starr is set to usher in a new chapter in her fast-rising career with the release of her highly anticipated third studio album, Starr Girl, on August 14, via Mavin Records and Republic Records.
  
The album marks her first full-length project since 2024’s The Year I Turned 21 and one of the most anticipated Afrobeats releases of the year. The album was first announced during an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show in April, where Starr revealed both the title and an initial July release window.
  
The date was later pushed forward to August 14, alongside the unveiling of the album’s official cover art, shared across social media and on Roc Nation’s website. The announcement comes amid heightened anticipation following months of teasers, studio updates and live performances that have hinted at a fresh creative direction for the Rush, and Away singer.
  
Known for her fearless songwriting and captivating stage presence, Ayra Starr has cultivated a reputation for creating music that resonates with young audiences navigating themes of self-discovery, confidence, love and ambition. Her ability to fuse emotionally rich storytelling with infectious melodies has made her one of the continent’s most streamed female artistes.
  
Starr Girl marks a decisive departure from the age-based naming conventions of her past work: 19 & Dangerous and The Year I Turned 21. Instead, the album serves as an era-defining manifesto — a complete sonic and visual universe built entirely on Ayra Starr’s terms.
  
Reflecting on the mindset behind the record in recent interviews, Ayra Starr noted that she is no longer recording to prove herself or chase fleeting trends, but rather to inspire listeners to expand their horizons.
   
“I’m literally becoming a woman, and you can hear that in my music now. I want the record to encourage people to think bigger. The way I can do my best for this genre, my culture, and all the people that came before me is to be myself completely.
   
“That means giving my all to my craft, being passionate, and allowing myself to try new things—understanding that my sound, my culture, is already in me,” she shared during a with Teen Vogue Creative Editorial Director Mi-Anne Chan, after her performance at Teen Vogue Fest 2026 in Brooklyn.
