All roads lead to the Caribbean waterside spot, Bolivar, in Lagos, on Saturday, March 25, as the maiden edition of the Amapiano Left and Right series debuts. Set to service the blooming Amapiano community in Lagos, the monthly free-to-enter gig will kick off with live sets from acclaimed disc jockeys DJ Consequence, DJ Calix of Village Sound System (VSS), among others.
“There’s been so much import of Amapiano and there’s so much we could enjoy than just the few songs that go viral,” Tobi Olushola, founder Amapiano Left and Right said.
“We have so many amapiano lovers in Lagos, but very few special experiences for them to explore. This will be a one of a kind approach to community building.”
Other special guest DJs for the event include Hause, Venom, Creatus the DJ, Harmony and Chucky. The event, which is still a novel idea in Lagos, follows the footsteps of other outdoor club-type raves that have increasingly become fertile ground for music exports and imports in Lagos.
According to the organisers, there would also be an open-mic edition, in subsequent editions, to help discover budding young talent in the megacity.
“There is a reason we have kept it at no cost. Amapiano is about community. We need people to register for it and we just put out a link on our social media pages.
There’s no reason we can’t celebrate House or Amapiano in Lagos, when obviously we have the biggest consumers of the genre currently,” Olushola said.
