DOTTi The Deity unveils sophomore album, cocoa hue

DOTTi The Deity

Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, DOTTi The Deity, is set to release his highly anticipated sophomore album, Cocoa Hue, on August 28. A deeply personal and expansive body of work, Cocoa Hue is an expression of the different flavours born from DOTTi’s eclectic influences and experiences.

Across its 12 tracks, the album moves fluidly through sounds, moods and stories, drawing from the rich intersection of African musical traditions, contemporary Nigerian music, soul, jazz, gospel, pop and Yoruba cultural influences.

It brings together an exceptional cast of collaborators, including legendary Fuji musician Adewale Ayuba, songwriter Shorae Moore, multi-instrumentalist and Afrobeat exponent Mádé Kuti, and rapper, lyricist and Big Brother Naija winner Laycon.

Behind the sound is an equally distinguished production team. The album is primarily produced by SiBU, with additional production by acclaimed producer Duktor Sett and guest/additional production from legendary Nigerian producer and songwriter Cobhams Asuquo. Together, they help create a sonic landscape that allows DOTTi’s versatility, musicianship and storytelling to take centre stage.

More than simply a collection of songs, Cocoa Hue is designed as an immersive journey. The album’s title speaks to its central idea — just as cocoa can be transformed into different flavours, textures and experiences, DOTTi’s music draws from the many colours of his artistic identity and the experiences that have shaped him.

In the months leading to its release, DOTTi The Deity has taken Cocoa Hue beyond traditional listening sessions through the Cocoa Circuit, a pre-release experience that brought the album into homes and communities.

The intimate listening tour allowed audiences to experience the music in personal, unconventional settings while creating a direct connection between the artiste, his music and the people who will ultimately give the album life. The Cocoa Circuit has served as a preview of the world of Cocoa Hue, building anticipation ahead of its official release.

Now, the journey culminates in a major live experience. On September 12, DOTTi The Deity will bring Cocoa Hue to the stage for The Cocoa XP, a major album concert scheduled to hold at Bature Brewery, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The concert will transform the album from a recorded project into a full-scale live experience, giving audiences the opportunity to experience DOTTi and his band, The Pantheon, in an environment built around the music, culture and energy of Cocoa Hue.

Cocoa Hue represents a significant new chapter in the evolution of DOTTi The Deity. Following the success of his acclaimed debut album Madam Dearest, Pt. 1 and his continued growth as one of Nigeria’s most distinctive contemporary performers, the sophomore album further establishes DOTTi as an artiste unafraid to explore the full range of his musical identity.

Known for his commanding live performances and his ability to blend jazz, soul, gospel, Yoruba folk and contemporary African sounds, DOTTi approaches Cocoa Hue not simply as an album, but as a statement of artistic identity.

Released under Flytime Records and distributed worldwide by Virgin Music, the project is managed by Lanre Lawal under the Clockwyce Music Enterprise imprint. With its rich collaborations, accomplished production and deeply intentional artistic direction, Cocoa Hue invites listeners to discover the many flavours of DOTTi The Deity.
