Headies Awards: Organisers fulfill promise, give Odumodublvck keys to solar-powered home
Winner of the Rookie of the Year award at the 16th Headies Awards, Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu, better known by the stage name Odumodublvck has officially taken ownership of his solar-powered home from organisers of the awards.
The presentation ceremony held on Wednesday, October 30, at Ayo Animashaun’s office, Headies award organiser, where the Eziokwu hitmaker signed the documents and received the keys to his new property. This fulfillment of the home promise by Headies comes after Odumodublvck sparked controversy among fans and fellow artistes with his win.
“Signed, Sealed and Delivered as @odumodublvck finally gets the time to sign the document and take ownership of his 16th @the_headies solar powered home proudly sponsored by @citadelviews_
estate,” a statement read on HipTV, the mother company to Headies.
The lyricist who was visibly excited as he inspected the new home was accompanied by Animashaun, and businessman, real-estate entrepreneur cum philanthropist, Kennedy Okonkwo also known as Ned Okonkwo, founder and CEO of Nedcomoaks Limited, the real estate agent responsible for the property.
Odumodublvck’s achievement reflects his rising influence in the Nigerian music scene. Since his emergence in the music industry, he has consistently thrilled the fans with his stage performances, genre-blend and often portrayal of Okpu Agu.
He released a joint studio album with B.O.C Madaki, titled, The Drop in 2022, and a few months later he released a follow-up single, Picanto, featuring Ecko Miles, and Zlatan. On November 21, the same year, the single debuted on TurnTable Bubbling Under Top 100 at number 8, and number 15 on Nigeria Hip-Hop/Rap Songs chart.
Seven days later, the song debuted at number 79 on the Top 100, and number 44 on Nigeria Radio, and reached Number 6 at Nigeria Hip-Hop/Rap Songs chart. In March 2023 (precisely Friday 24), he released his first single on, titled Declan Rice, shortly after surviving a surgery that almost took his life.
Three day later, Odumodublvck earned his first top 10 entry on TurnTable official Nigeria Top 100 Songs chart at number 8. On April 1 same year, the single led TheCable Lifestyle airplay chart at number 1. On July 15, 2023, Arsenal announced the signing of Declan Rice from West Ham United, using the song in the background.
According to Dazed, a quarterly British lifestyle magazine, his unrelenting style of drill which employs high-life inspired melodies, which he dubbed Okporoko Rhythms, in slangs “Afro terrorism” and Nigerian Pidgin English to tell vivid stories about his community and everyday experiences is so specific to Nigerians, while it hard to pick up on the nuances from his narrative style as an outsider.
Headies has consistently delivered on its promises to winners, previously awarding cars and now a house, courtesy of Citadel Views Estate.
